In Light of the Boston Marathon

In Light of the Boston MarathonMy heart go out to all the victims of the recent bombing at the Boston Marathon, and all subsequent tragic events that have taken place this past week. I am a neuropsychologist, as well as a board certified health psychologist, sports psychologist, and performing arts psychologist with over 37 years of experience in PTSD and trauma. I have also endured brain surgery and is a brain injury/concussion survivor. As a specialist in PTSD and trauma, I work with the Disaster Relief Network as part of the Red Cross. In the events following 9/11, I was at Logan Airport in Boston, MA to help the remaining United Airlines crew get back on the airplanes successfully.

In a blast injury, the explosion of a bomb or improvised explosive device produces a sound wave. The movement, amplitude, and duration of this sound wave can result in pressure within the brain, and cause tissue damage as well as dysregulation of connectivity and brain waves. The damage to the brain as a result of a blast injury is called a blast mTBI, a form of brain injury/concussion, which can result in post concussion syndrome (PCS).

If you or a loved one have sustained a blast injury, or been effected by these horrific events and need someone to speak to, please call 800-500-9971 or schedule a consult on our website here.

Within each person shines an inner light that illuminates our path and is the source of hope. Illness, trauma, suffering and grief can diminish the light and shroud hope. I am a catalyst for hope and change, offering a way to rekindle this inner light.” -Dr. Diane
