| It is an altered state of consciousness characterized by enhanced receptivity, relaxation and heightened imagination. It's not really like sleeping, because the subject is alert the whole time. It is most often compared to daydreaming, or the feeling of "losing yourself" in a book or movie. You are fully conscious, but you tune out most of the stimuli around you. You focus intently on the subject at hand, to the near exclusion of any other thought. With training you learn how to respond to and control various conditions. It is extremely helpful for pain reduction, pain management, abuse and trauma. Hypnosis is also extremely effective in peak performance, sports psychology and performing arts. Hypnosis, which is also very helpful for pain reduction, uses an altered state of consciousness to teach responses to and control over various conditions. It is also helpful in the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), chronic pain, chronic illness, childbirth, and sports performance. Dr. Diane® is one of a limited number of certified consultants in Clinical Hypnosis and has been published on this topic. |
