Exercise: Time to Get Moving!
Did anyone else choose “to exercise more” for their New Years Resolution? Well if your also recovering from any type of brain injury/concussion, here is some extra motivation for you to actually keep your resolution this year. Physical activity, especially the kind that gets your heart rate going, is just as essential for brain health as mental activity. Exercising increases the number of synapses, which in turn creates better communication between brain-cells, promotes production of new brain cells, and sustains existing ones. Indirectly, exercise also maintains a strong, healthy heart and lungs, resulting in more oxygen-rich blood flowing to your brain. Whether you are young or old, injured or not injured, get up and get active!
