What is Energy Healing?

Everything is made up of energy, including humans. This means that everything is a vibration, and the world around us is comprised of shifting vibrating patterns (energy).

Each one of us is a complex energetic system, and we exist amidst environments that vibrate with many energetic frequencies. For millennia, healing traditions around the world have emphasized the importance of subtle energy systems that flow through and around living organisms, affecting health and vitality. Balancing and strengthening these systems can assist the body, mind and spirit to heal and to stay well.

Energy healing, also called energy medicine or energy therapy, is a branch of alternative medicine where the energy healer channels positive, “healing” energy into the client for the purpose of rebalancing the energy within the client’s body and mind. This can be done with touch (“hands-on”) or without (“hands-off). This type of therapy can even be done with the healer and client being at separate locations, through way of applications such as Zoom.

“Conventional medicine, at its foundation, focuses on the biochemistry of cells, tissue, and organs. Energy medicine (or energy healing), at its foundation, focuses on the energy fields of the body that organize and control the growth and repair of cells, tissues, and organs. Changing impaired energy patterns may be the most efficient, least invasive way to improve the vitality of organs, cells, and psyche.” – David Feinstein, Ph.D.

In energy healing, we directly treat the energy in a person’s body and aura. This, in turn, affects the whole person – physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. We look for the energetic reasons for a person’s symptoms and treat these underlying causes.

Dr. Erin Olivio, of Oprah.com, writes that, “Therapists who work with this type of energy claim that they can see it with their own eyes or that they can sense it with their hands or bodies. The field of energy medicine involving putative energy fields is based on the fundamental premise that all physical objects (bodies) and psychological processes (thoughts, emotions, beliefs and attitudes) are expressions of energy. Therefore, all bodies are believed to be infused with a “subtle” energy or life force. This life force is known by a variety of terms corresponding to different traditions. In traditional Chinese medicine it is called qi (pronounced CHEE), in the Judeo-Christian tradition it is called spirit, and in Ayurvedic medicine it is represented in the doshas.”

In recent years, energy healing methods have flourished. Traditional systems, such as acupuncture, have become popular and have entered the mainstream—so much so that many medical offices and clinics offer acupuncture treatment. Many new energy healing methods have developed. These are often innovative combinations of ancient systems, or blends of modern disciplines with traditional wisdom.

Energy healing can be used independently to maintain health. When medical conditions are present, it is used as a complementary approach to improve outcomes, to speed healing, and to reduce symptoms. Energy healing can be effective for a wide variety of health issues.

“Energy Medicine brings you vitality when you are drained, health when you are ill, and joy when you are down.” – Donna Eden

The subtle energy (chi) that flows through your body is as important to your health and well-being as the more traditionally recognized bodily functions. Often when these energies become weak, disturbed or out of balance, we experience physical and emotional symptoms. In order to relieve these symptoms, the energy that flows through your body must be restored.

Dr. Diane® has been trained in energy healing, also called energy medicine, from the leader in this field, Donna Eden. According to Donna Eden, “Energy is your body’s magic! It is your life force. You keep it healthy and it keeps you healthy. If you are sick or sad, shifting your energies feels good. When you care for these invisible energies, it makes your heart sing and your cells happy!”.

How Is Energy Healing Practiced?

Energy medicine is practiced through techniques such as qi gong, acupuncture, reiki, polarity therapy, and Balinese training. It focuses on restoring and maintaining the body’s natural energy flow, balance and harmony. This can be done through tapping, massaging, pinching, twisting, or connecting certain energy points on the body. It is also common to trace or swirl the hand over these energy points on the skin. This works by the energy therapist focusing their mind on moving these energies and transferring them to the person being touched.

How Does Energy Healing Work?

Energy is a living force that exists both within us and everywhere in the world around us, and this energy directly influences our health and mood. While energy healers may not fully be able to explain why this natural phenomena occurs, they understand that energy exists all around us, and we as humans are constantly coming into contact with energy within our environment. This energy is not always positive energy, and when we come into contact with it, it can throw our own personal energy off-balance. One major example of a common object in our environment that emits negative energy is our cell-phones, however negative energy can exist anywhere. People can even give off negative energy, for example, when they are angry or in a bad mood. Coming into contact with negative energy like this can offset the balance of energy that exists within our bodies. Energy healing helps to re-balance the natural flow of energy within us.

In theory, the body’s energy is supposed to:

  • Be able to move freely at all times.
Sometimes energies can be blocked by toxins, piercings, tight muscles, stress, or interference from other energies. This can cause a disturbance in the healthy balance of your body’s energy flow
  • Stay balanced with all of the other energies surrounding it.
Stressful environments can cause a disturbance in this balance
  • Move in their desired patterns that follow the natural harmony of your body.
These pathways in which the energy flows serve specific functions to keep your physical body healthy
  • Cross over from one side of your body to the other.
